This school is 113 years old.
I never knew that Hawthorn was that old.
I attended Hawthorn Road School from about 1947 to 1951 when I was one of 5 boys to pass for the 'grammar'. With food on rationing until the mid 1950's, I well remember taking a container to school at regular intervals to be issued with a milky chocolate drink powder. At school, I had the only fist fight in my life (I am now 76) over a girl!!! I really enjoyed school life and the staff, under Mr Bird, were great. What a pity that primary schools do not teach English Folk dancing any more.
