Oxford Street. No.38 is the house with the cream front

In 1901, No. 38 Oxford Street was occupied by Arthur Halbard (41), a shoe laster, his wife, Ellen (38), and their 8 children.

Arthur was born in the nearby village of Cranford, and was one of thousands who moved into Kettering to work in the Boot and Shoe industry.

Comments about this page

Cars came to Oxford Street in the late 1940s. We bought our first car in 1949, a second hand Standard Eight that had previously belonged to Dr Deutsch. This was one of the earliest cars in the street, (probably the very first.)
