High Street

Possibly this is looking towards the corner of Gold and Lower Street. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes you are correst about the location, at back of pic was Bakehouse Hill. The building with the gabled roof was Bilsons Hardware, Webb Bros. was Woolworths in the 60's, I used to work there. Cheers! (Carol from Brisbane Australia)

The opening on the left led to Wadcroft which was a site of very old cottages now the car park. Wadcroft was very dimly lit and was like entering into a Dickensian era. My first girlfriend lived in one of the cottages in 1959ish, a Miss Goodser and when meeting in town, I would walk her back to her home there. Very eerie place. Miltons wallpaper and paint store had a shop at the top of Wadcroft sometime later. I think they were superceeded by West End Wallpapers.
